THE ART OF WORKING WITH STONE
From the movement of marble to the quiet depth of granite, stone gives a space its own character. We work with you to bring that character into your kitchen, bathroom or commercial interior.

MATERIALS COMPARED
Every material has trade-offs. Here is what to know about wear, maintenance and practical use before choosing a slab.
These are general comparisons. The actual slab, finish, fabrication and manufacturer’s care instructions matter. Use chopping boards and trivets, and clean up spills promptly.

Natural veining; a wide choice of colours and finishes; can often be refinished.
Softer than granite or quartzite. Scratches and acidic spills can leave dull marks. Some slabs stain readily and need sealing. Sealer does not prevent acid etching.
Bathrooms and feature surfaces, or kitchens where you are comfortable with wear and patina.
Hard-wearing and generally resistant to scratching and everyday kitchen acids. Lots of natural colours and patterns.
Edges can chip. Absorption varies, so some slabs need sealing. Busy patterns and joins may be more noticeable.
Busy kitchens where durability matters, with care suited to the actual slab.
True quartzite is hard, scratch resistant and generally resists everyday food acids. Some slabs offer flowing veining in light colours.
Often costly to cut and fabricate. Some varieties absorb liquids and need sealing. Slabs sold as “soft quartzite” may behave like marble—confirm what you are buying.
A natural stone kitchen surface when you want veining with good wear resistance.
Muted colours and a softer, less busy appearance. Works well in honed finishes.
Relatively soft and often porous. Can scratch, stain and etch from acidic spills. Needs more care than granite or true quartzite.
Bathrooms, wall finishes and lower-wear areas; consider the maintenance carefully for kitchens.
Permitted mineral alternatives can offer consistent colours, low absorption and straightforward daily cleaning. Check the specific product.
Resin-bound surfaces can be damaged by hot cookware; edges can chip. Outdoor suitability and chemical resistance vary. Traditional quartz-based engineered stone is prohibited for new benchtops, panels and slabs in Australia.
Ask about compliant mineral alternatives and check the exact product documentation. “Low silica” alone does not mean a product is permitted.
Low absorption and good stain resistance. Many products offer strong heat, scratch and UV resistance; check the chosen range.
Edges and corners can chip under impact. Fabrication and repairs can be difficult. Some printed designs do not continue through the slab or edge.
Kitchens, splashbacks and selected outdoor applications, subject to the manufacturer’s specification.
